Being a micro batch maker allows me the freedom to play with ideas, and I’ve been playing around with the idea of this bar for two years now. The photo came first. It’s a picture taken of my dad when he was in the service. I knew I wanted to make a wrapper out of it but struggled with a bar that could capture his spirit. Then a few months ago, as I poured myself a cup of coffee, the bar came to me…
Growing up we had a Pyrex percolator coffee pot that boiled the coffee on top of the stove. My dad woke up before the sun and the memory of him, hair disheveled, working at the kitchen table surrounded by blue prints, and papers, and his coffee cup is still clear in my mind’s eye. He enjoyed his coffee. He drank it with a lot of milk, never cream, and always in a petite cup.
Food (and coffee) can conjure up some beautiful memories. That’s one of the reasons I enjoy working in the kitchen. For me, food and love are intertwined.
“Have a pleasant day” is how my dad ended almost every conversation. Thanks for reading about this special bar, and I hope you have yourself a pleasant day today, too.
